Finnish strength dominates first boys group

The second start group featured five boys’ youth categories, showcasing strong Finnish performances across the 65–94 kg classes.

Boys Youth – 65 kg

In the 65 kg category there was only one participant, Torbjørn Russell from Finland. He may have been the lightest boy of the day, but his 212 kg total (92–120) outlifted many of the heavier athletes in the group.

Boys Youth – 71 kg

The 71 kg class offered a very close snatch phase, with all four lifters within a three-kilo margin. Niilo Leino from Finland took control early with 89 kg in the snatch and secured the gold by lifting 120 kg in the clean and jerk, reaching 209 kg in total. Norway’s Jørgen Bysveen also held his snatch position and claimed silver with 116 kg in the clean and jerk for a 203 kg total. The Swedish lifters finished third and fourth. Both Axel Millroth and Samuel Stenmarker made 86 kg in the snatch. In the clean and jerk, Millroth pulled ahead with his 114 kg, totaling 200 kg. Notably, both he and Stenmarker made their first two clean and jerks but missed the third attempt.

Boys Youth – 79 kg

Finland’s Kristen Sorvari secured gold after lifting 121 kg in the clean and jerk. He also attempted 130 kg but missed. His 211 kg total was enough to win the class. Sweden’s Viktor Söderberg went six for six and pushed Sorvari in the snatch with his 88 kg. In the clean and jerk, Söderberg completed 112 kg for a 200 kg total.

Boys Youth – 88 kg

In the 88 kg category, Finland’s Peetu Akujärvi put on an impressive performance with 97 kg in the snatch and 130 kg in the clean and jerk. His 235 kg total gave him a clear and convincing gold.

Boys Youth – 94 kg

The heaviest athlete in the group, Nikolai Aadland from Norway, lifted the most weight. Competing alone in the 94 kg class, he posted 118 kg in the snatch and 146 kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 264 kg.
